➡️ Sometimes, when using a structure or piece of equipment built 20-30 years ago, we are not aware of hidden defects left by the teams that welded it and their potential impact on the continued use of the component. Even if a structure has been in service for many years and there are no visible problems, this does not mean that incorrect workmanship during prefabrication has not shortened its lifespan.
➡️ Testing during the service phase is crucial for checking the wear and tear of a structure, as it enables us to reach places that were previously invisible, such as fretting at one-sided joints.
👇The photo below shows a hidden defect from decades ago that was left on a pressure element. UT and UTPA testing showed that, in addition to the lack of remelting, there was a second discrepancy of a flat nature, spreading towards the outer surface.
