🔍 Being able to observe the repair process is always a valuable and educational experience.

The welded joints shown in the pictures were subjected to a standard manual ultrasonic test, which yielded negative results. In the next stage, the repair was performed by gouging with a carbon electrode. ⚙️

It is always satisfying for an inspector when what was seen on the defectoscope screen is later confirmed live during the repair. 😊

One of the discontinuities visible in the images is a so-called chain of gas bubbles. 📡 This is a specific type of discontinuity that is difficult to detect using manual UT due to its spatial characteristics and the way the ultrasonic beam is reflected.
